White
Hills Botanical Gardens |
| |
The White Hills
Botanical Gardens were laid in the 1870's by Ferdinand von
Mueller who was the government botanist who played a prominent role
in the development of the Royal
Botanical Gardens in
Melbourne. Designed in a formal nineteenth century style as a living
scientific exhibition, the White Hills Botanical Gardens feature a
variety of rare tree species and native Australian wildlife.
Spectacular peacocks roam the gardens showing off their magnificent
plumage. Bird lovers can also view a wide variety of birds in the
walk-through aviaries. |
| |
Since
von Mueller's time, the Gardens have become a popular picnic
spot with a range of recreational facilities including a swimming
pool and small menagerie with wildlife and walk-through aviaries.
|
Newly
refinished walking tracks link the many popular features
of the gardens. Home to a variety of local water birds, a large
lake adds to the serenity of the gardens. Plenty of benches and
tables have been provided to set up your picnics, or to relax and
watch the wildlife on.
Superb BBQ facilities have been provided, with huge pavilions that
can accommodate whole school groups or tour groups, even birthday
parties.
|
|
| A great
playground can be found to keep the kids busy, with swings,
slides and plenty to climb on, surrounded by green lawns. |
| |
| The gardens
are renowned for the amazing variety of native wildlife on
show. From talking Cockatoos, to the curious Emus, you can get up
close to these magnificent Australian creatures. |
| Clean
modern toilet facilities are close at hand from any point
in the park. Ample parking is available in Scott street for cars,
caravans and even busses. The White Hills Swimming Pool can also be
accessed from the gardens. |
