Deborah Gold Mine - Bendigo |
One of
Australia's premier tourist attractions
the Central Deborah Gold Mine provides a unique and memorable introduction
to Bendigo and its history. A trip 30 stories below Bendigo is the
way to go.

The Central Deborah Gold Mine was the last commercial
mine to operate in Bendigo. In the period from 1939 to 1954 about
one tonne of gold was unearthed from the mine, worth around $12,000,000
AUS in today's prices.

The mine closed for a number of years until 1986 when it
was reopened for underground tours and miners once again ventured
below with visitors to explore the fascinating tunnels and drives
below. |

Pop on your hard hat with its miners light and take a leisurely
stroll on Level 2 of the mine to learn about the fascinating history
of gold mining in Bendigo.

You
will be able to see gold in the quartz reef on the mine's
tunnels. Central Deborah is the real thing! See and hear an actual
working drill.

Try
out the new and exciting adventure tour on Level 3 or
if you are game take a ride on "Cage Rider" and plunge to the
depths.

up the Poppet Head and take a 300 metre walk 2 stores up
in the air, climb down into the gold panning and machinery shed were
you can try your luck at panning for gold. |

There are many exhibits to be seen, felt and heard
through out the complex, you could easily spend a couple of hours
just browsing all the different displays.

the beautiful gift shop, you can find things from soft fuzzy
toys and fridge magnets to finely crafted jewelry.
